Hyaluronic Acid and Evening Primrose Oil for Dry Eyes

My eyes have been dry lately, partly from the heat, but also due to hormonal changes (I just turned 52).

I have been able to wear contact lenses, without discomfort, since I was 13 years old. I felt pretty lucky abou this, as I have a sister who has never been able to wear contacts full time, and I have much drier eyes than she does (since she never took Accutane). Contacts never bothered me before... until this year.

For the last several months, my contact lenses have been bothering me in a way they usually don't. I find that they feel drier in my eyes, and irritate them, a lot sooner than they normally would. I used to be able to wear them all day, as long as I was staying well-hydrated. But now, even if I drink a gallon of water per day, my contacts still bother me.

This dry eye issue seemed to happen around the same time the skin on my neck and arms started to take on this really soft, almost kind of "droopy" feeling, my skin didn't have before. Like, basically, the skin of an older person who's not far from developing "turkey neck." So I can't help thinking that, due to hormonal changes and my age, my body is suddenly just not producing the same amount of something (hydrating) that it used to. I know one of those things is probably estrogen, and I had heard there's something about estrogen that helps to keep your body well lubricaated.

So I googled it, and found this article about boosting your own estrogen levels. One of them was about using Evening primrose oil, which I've used in the past and it does seem to help your skin to retain moisture.

When I looked up the Evening primrose oil, I saw the Amazon suggestion that other customers had bought Phytoceramides also, and sure enough there were people who said it helped them with their dry eyes.

I also saw this suggestion for Saw Palmetto. No one had reported that it helped with their dry eyes, but they did report it helped skin dryness, so I am hoping it will be effective. I'm willing to try it. This sudden dry eye syndrome is driving me a little nuts. I always had a pretty high tolerance for wearing contact lenses but now I can only go a few hours at a time which is not great for me because it's difficult to wear glasses while I'm driving.

I can only afford to get one or two supplements right now, so I may go with the hyaluronic acid and saw palmetto to start.

Copied and pasted from what I found online:

Evening primrose oil

Evening primrose oil (EPO) is a traditional herbal remedy that contains high levels of omega-6 fatty acids, making it a popular supplement for conditions such as PMS and menopause. There’s very little recent research on the benefits of evening primrose oil for estrogen.

However, one studyTrusted Source found that of over 2,200 women that used EPO after discontinuing hormone replacement therapy, 889 reported EPO as useful for controlling the symptoms of low estrogen with menopause.

So, I searched the Amazon reviews for the words "dry eye" and found quite a few reviews where people said it helped them in that regard.

Evening Primrose Oil fo Dry Eyes

You can see this study, here:

https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3180483/

Once referred to the study, informed consent was obtained and subjects were randomized, using a random number generator, to one of two groups. Both groups were given a prescription-only medical food supplement, Tears Again HYDRATETM (OCuSOFT, Rosenberg, TX), consisting of four geltabs containing a total of 1000 mg of omega-3 EFAs derived from flaxseed oil and 500 mg of omega-6 EFAs (GLA) derived from evening primrose oil, both of which are microencapsulated in a proprietary liposome process designed to improve absorption. The amount of EFAs per food supplement serving is similar to that used in other research on evening primrose oil and identical to that used in other research on flaxseed oil.

Conclusion

Supplementation with the proper balance of omega-3 and omega-6 essential fatty acids improved TBUT and relieved patient symptoms. The addition of topical cyclosporine did not convey any statistically significant improvement in TBUT beyond that achieved by the supplement.

I am really happy with this product! I’ve been taking it for almost 6 weeks. I take one pill in the morning with breakfast. I have struggled with acne on and off since teenage years and am now in my mid 30’s. About 8 months ago I started using Differin gel as a topical treatment. After the initial “purge” of about 10 weeks, it took care of the more superficial/clogged pore acne. But I was still getting hormonal cysts here and there with my cycles. I thought I’d just have to live with it, but then I found this! My skin just continues to get better and better every day. I literally get no acne now. I didn’t know something like this could ACTUALLY work. I was super skeptical. I’m still using the Differin gel as well. I think the Differin and evening Primrose oil make a good team together to clear up acne! I do think the Evening Primrose oil caused my period to be 2 days late this past cycle, but that’s no big deal to me. All in all, a terrific product! Oh, also, it made me stop having horribly dry eyes! My eyes have not been dry once since starting to take this!

Let me review your product Evening Primrose Oil (1300mg) 120 Liquid Softgels ~ Cold-Pressed. I absolutely cannot go more than a day without taking several to help with my dry eyes. Since I was a teenager, my eyes have been dry. This condition has worsened with age. Now at age 59, my primary remedy for dry eyes is taking four to five of Sports Research's Evening Primrose Oil gel-caps daily. This keeps enough moisture in my eyes to maintain normal visibility. Before finding Sport Research brand, I tried other brands which either did not have enough active ingredient, or the carrier-oil might be rancid tasting. I have never had an issue with Sports Research, and highly recommend for whatever your need might be.

I bought these in November of 2018 along with the Biotin infused with organic virgin coconut oil - 5000mcg (here on Amazon) I really believe taking these 2 pills together at the same time during the past 2 months has made a difference in my hair, my nails and here is the unexpected surprise - my eyelashes. My hair has always been thick - my hair has always grown quickly. I'm fair skinned and a red head so I have to keep an eye on my skin care - I noticed a few months after turning 54 that my hair was not growing so quickly after a haircut; I noticed how dry my skin was and my nails were brittle. I read reviews on Amazon and decided to go with this tablet and the Biotin infused with organic virgin coconut oil - The first 4 weeks, I noticed nothing - 6 weeks in and I started noticing my hair was thicker (again) and growing longer (again) My nails are long and strong and my skin is not as dry. What really surprised me was while putting mascara on my thinning eyelashes - it dawned on me that my lashes were longer and fuller! Imagine my surprise on noticing this in my mirror while applying the mascara! I immediately knew it was these 2 pills. Now that I am past the 2nd month - I am only taking 1 a day instead of the recommended 2. I only take the vitamins during the week giving my body a break on the weekends.
4 stars because I've noticed a few days out of the month, I tend to break out on the side of my neck which has never happened before - I've never had an issue with acne so I'll rate it this and see if that changes

I will continue to buy these as long as I have positive results like this. I'm thankful for the reviews on Amazon as this helped me decide what to try

I purchased this bottle back in October while I was still using another brand. My reason for using it is a bit different than what others on here use it for. Years ago I suffered from extremely dry eyes. None of the drops dr. prescribed worked or worked for a very short time. I don't remember why I first bought OTC bottle of EPO and started taking it but after doing that for awhile I noticed that my issue with dry eyes was totally gone. I stopped taking it and dry eyes issues returned so I cont. to use it once a day or every other day for that. It probably had some other benefits too but this one was my biggest reason for using it.
In October I was purchasing some other items on Amazon and came across this one. After reading some reviews I decided to buy it with intention to use it once I use all of the ones I had at the moment. With the previous brand I'd notice improvement within couple of hours. With this one not at all. Also, this one comes with high amount of Omega 6 and Omega 9 which can be harmful and increase inflammation (research Omega 3 vs Omega 6 in humans). The brand I had before did not have omega 6 nor Omega 9. Unfortunately, by the time I found out that it's not working for me, my 30 days return period ended. :(

 Hyaluronic Acid for Dry Eyes

I'd read about hyaluronic acid in the past, knowing it is something that really hydrates the skin. So, I took a look on Amazon, to see if others might have reported that it could be something that helped their dry eyes. And sure enough... I found several reviewers who said it did seem to help their dry eyes. I am pasting those reviews (along with the product they were reviewing) further down the page.

There have been so many times I've learned that something we're used to buying (and might think was "invented by man") is actually produced by your own body, and we've just learned how to duplicate it. I am super grateful to the people who've learned how to replicate this stuff, because it's extremely helpful. But it's just important to keep in mind, how powerful mother nature is, and to me that explains why these things work so well. When we take supplements like hyaluronic acid, we're just giving our bodies the things we already had.

Hyaluronic acid, also known as hyaluronan, is a clear, gooey substance that is naturally produced by your body. The largest amounts of it are found in your skin, connective tissue and eyes. Its main function is to retain water to keep your tissues well lubricated and moist.Apr 21, 2018

You can also see a study, highlighted below, that shows how it helped people with their dry eyes. It helped the ones who actually took the hyaluronic acid (but not the people who took the placebo).

I'm definitely going to order this stuff!

Oral Hyaluronic Acid Supplementation for the Treatment of Dry Eye Disease: A Pilot Study

Abstract

Purpose. To evaluate the clinical efficacy of oral hyaluronic acid (HA) in patients with dry eye disease (DED). Study Design. Prospective randomized controlled trial. Methods. This trial enrolled 54 subjects and they were randomized into the study or control group. The inclusion criteria were as follows: (1) >18 years of age; (2) distance best-corrected visual acuity ≥ 20/40 Snellen equivalent in each eye; (3) IOP ≤ 21 mmHg in both eyes; (4) ocular surface disease index (OSDI) score of ≥18 and <65; (5) <10 seconds of tear break up time (TBUT); (6) >5 corneal spots of corneal fluorescein staining (CFS); and (7) ≤ 10 mm/5 min of the Schirmer test. All subjects were treated with a topical HA, and the study group was supplemented with oral HA. OSDI, TBUT, CFS, and the Schirmer test were evaluated for ocular surface parameters. Results. 24 patients were assigned in the study group. Significant improvement of OSDI, TBUT, and CFS was observed at 1 month and 3 months after oral HA administration in the study group. At baseline and follow-up at 1 and 3 months, OSDI scores were 61.8 ± 16.2, 47.3 ± 11.6, and 42.3 ± 9.1, respectively (). TBUT was improved after treatment for 1 month and 3 months (4.2 ± 1.1;  and 4.7 ± 1.1; ). There were also statistically significant improvements in the CSF (1.8 ± 1.0, 0.8 ± 0.7; ) at baseline compared with those at 1 month. Conclusions. A combined supplement of both oral and topical HA more efficiently improves corneal epithelial wound healing and related symptoms than topical HA alone, in DED.

1. Introduction

Dry eye disease (DED) is a common chronic ocular surface disease which is characterized by a loss of tear film homeostasis. It has multifactorial causes including tear film instability, hyperosmolarity, inflammation, and neurosensory abnormalities and results in ocular discomfort and visual impairment [1].

The treatment of DED is generally initiated with an instillation of lubricant eye drops or viscosity-enhancing agents [2]. Other major treatment options include anti-inflammatory therapy, tear conservation approach, and the treatment of lid abnormality. Dietary modification such as essential fatty acid, [34] lactoferrin [5], and antioxidant supplement [6] is a minor treatment option; however, there is growing evidence that diet and nutritional supplementation play a role in DED.

Hyaluronic acid (HA) is a macromolecular mucopolysaccharide that is widely distributed throughout connective, epithelial, and neural tissues [7]. HA has been used in tear supplements to enhance lubrication as a topical agent, and it has been proven to promote corneal epithelial wound healing [89]. However, HA can also be supplemented in oral route. Recently, HA has been taken orally to reduce joint pain in osteoarthritic knees and increase hydration for dry skin. Studies have proven that oral HA has anti-inflammatory [10] and skin moisturizing properties [11]. However, to the best of our knowledge, there is no trial of oral HA supplementation for the treatment of DED. In this study, we assumed that anti-inflammatory and moisturizing effects of oral HA also might work in DED. We investigated the effect of oral HA supplementation for the treatment of DED.

3.2. Secondary Outcome

Three months after treatment, OSDI was significantly improved when compared to one month after treatment in the study group (3 months; 42.3 ± 9.1, ) but not in the control group (3 months; 49.0 ± 17.6, ) (Figure 1). TBUT was also significantly improved in the study group (3 months; 4.7 ± 1.1, ) but not in the control group (3 months; 4.9 ± 1.1, ) (Figure 2). However, CFS was also significantly improved in both study group (3 months; 0.3 ± 0.4, ) and control group (3 months; 0.8 ± 0.5, ) (Figure 3). The between-group differences in CFS and OSDI at 3 months were significant ( and , respectively) but the difference in TBUT was not significant ().

I got this just 4 days ago and I have noticed three things....I woke up to take the fourth capsule this morning and my skin felt soft and balanced , no oily or dry areas. I’ve also noticed this morning that my eyes feel lubricated , most mornings they feel like they’re so dry that they have sand or something in them.
I wake up throughout the night with aching hips when I lay on my side and I haven’t woke up to that in a few days. I think this stuff works and isn’t a part of my imagination. I’m going to praise this product to family members and others as well.

Update : I’ve been using this about 6 weeks now and I don’t know if I’m crazy or what , but I have tiny little baby hairs around the front of my hairline, which was getting thin due to wearing my hair back so much.
I googled it to see if hyaluronic acid did anything for the hair besides give it more moisture and come to find out it said that it’s kinda like a fertilizer for hair so I hope this is true and I don’t doubt that it is because I haven’t used anything else that would cause new growth. Really excited about this!

One last thing I want to mention - I know that Alpha Lipoic Acid helps to regenerate blood vessels, so I looked on Amazon to see if it might somehow help with dry eyes. I didn't see anything in the reviews, but I am going to try to take this anyway because I had an accident where something fell on my eye and it made mone of my eyes a little more astigmatic than it usually is. Astigmatism gets worse if the shape of your eye changes, and I can't help thinking the shape of my eye could have changed slightly if scar tissue had built up somewhat, after I had that accident. I didn't notice it right away, but over the next few weeks it seemed that it became more noticeable, so I couldn't help wondering if it was due to scar tissue.  So I will be taking Alpha Lipoic acid too. Will put the brand I plan to order, below.

Results: Pterygium recurrence was similar in both groups. A significant increment of fibroelastic tissue was observed in the placebo compared with the α-lipoic acid group. Number and caliber of blood vessels, extracellular matrix content and presence of inflammatory infiltrated cells decreased in the α-lipoic acid group. Myofibroblasts were also localized and smaller. Conclusions: Treatment with α-lipoic acid improved clinical appearances through decreased fibroelastic tissue size. Recurrence was similar. Blood vessels, extracellular matrix content and inflammatory infiltrated cells reduced with α-lipoic acid.

I have been walking on the outer sides of my feet (when not in shoes) for about 8 years (instead of flat on my feet like normal people do) due to peripheral neuropathy damage done to all my toes from taking statins for a few years. The pins and needles and electric shock sensation to my toes has never reversed.
Two weeks ago I decided to Google to see if there were any legit remedies for this. On a few websites that discussed diabetes and peripheral neuropathy I read that there was often some relief taking Alpha Lipoic Acid. I finally decided to try it. I really didn’t expect much effect, at least not for a few weeks of taking it (600 mg/day with food). On day two, I realized that I was naturally walking on flat feet like I used to. I have been totally dumbfounded for the past week, as has my husband. He also had very similar effects from taking statins, so he has decided to give this a try now. I will be interested to see how it affects his feet.

If you are plagued and suffering from neuropathy this may help. It has helped me. Science does not yet understand the brain and nerve function in humans. It is a mystery at the moment. But this does help. Drug companies make drugs that have horrible side effects. And they make a fortune ripping you off. Homeopathic cures generally work without side effects. Drug companies are evil entities who want to make you sicker to sell you more drugs. Our ancestors figured out through trial and error over thousands of years ago what works naturally and what does not.

No. But on a pain scale of 1 to 10, I was an 8-10 every day, and I woke up and went through the day, doing MORE than I usually do cause I felt so much better, and stayed around a 2-3. What a difference! It really angers me that all the doctors i've been to for this issue never mentioned this supplement. They would rather put me on gabapentin or some such med with a dozen or more side effects. Please trust my review as I was very skeptical about this. I am so sold on this that it makes ME want to give YOU a double your money back guarantee!!! I want the world to know that you can get relief for neuropathy without a prescription!

Caused me indigestion even with food and caused heart burn. However, it has convinced me that it was a remarkably effective treatment for neuropathy caused by cancer (lymphoma) and diabetes. It was not just pain relief but also better balance when walking. Also it has a very nice effect on blood sugar lowering it some. I am insulin dependent so it must affect resistance reducing cell resistance. So, I bought the “Natrol time release 600 mg” version of the supplement and now have zero indigestion. I take 600 mg in the AM & PM. 1200 mg a day. Always look for time released versions of supplements if they cause indigestion and do not give up.

I wasn't sure this stuff was working at first, but after a few days the numbness and tingling in my hand was much improved. A few weeks later I noticed that a spot on my face which had reduced sensation due to nerve damage was also improving, after months of little change. This was an unexpected bonus. I hear this stuff has great health benefits on top of being good for neuropathy so I'll be taking it for life. Highly recommend.

I've been taking another brand for years and found this one for less money. After about a month, I noticed it did not contain another ingredient which my old brand did and that's called Biotin. It is supposed to help with absorption. It still helps with my neuropathy, not sure it it's as good without the Biotin. I may have to up the dose? It still helps well enough. As for the heartburn thing, that's kind of expected, after all it is an acid. All you have to do is not take it on an empty stomach and if you do, just eat a small snack. Problem solved. Another thing you can do is take a small amount of apple cider vinegar and heartburn's gone.

I can tell this is a good and not a fake supplement because it does reduce my neuropathy pain. If it increases your neuropathy pain the first week, don't fret. It wakes up some almost dead nerves at first, but then after a week the pain is reduced.

And this is the Saw Palmetto I plan to get at some point.  Again, I didnt see reviews for eye dryness (so I may wait on this one) but I would be curious to see if it helps.

Why NONE OF US should be wasting time worrying about the Coronavirus IF (and only if) there's already a solution

I realize that COVID-19 is a SERIOUS problem. It's a deadly virus that can kill and injure people, and it's worse than the flu, so I get it, I get it, I get it. I'm not trying to say it's not a dangerous virus. Clearly, it is, and it should be taken very seriously.

But I'm writing this post to make a point.

If (and I'm saying only if) there already is an effective, safe, and easy solution out there, that actually could prevent people from getting sick from COVID-19....  then in my opinion, it is a SHAMELESS WASTE of time, money, energy and resources to be putting THIS much focus on finding a cure.

We are in the middle of an ENVIRONMENTAL CRISIS, people. Mother nature is sending big, loud warning signs that we need to get it together, RIGHT NOW. This is not a drill.  How SENSELESS would it be for us to spend 3 billions of dollars on a vaccine, when we NEED that kind of money to preserve the OXYGEN we have on this Earth?

This video shows the changes in the earth's temperatures that have taken place since the 1800s. You'll see for yourself, global warming is a serious threat, and we need to do something about it NOW.  We are in an all-hands-on-deck situation, and if we don't all start to work together to turn things around, we're not going to have a lot of time left. I'm not being dramatic. There are over A MILLION acres burning in California, as I write this.

We are starting to see drastic changes in our environment that we've never seen before. I mean, when you see the Amazon developing fires that are burning out of control... this is a problem for the world. The Amazon rainforest provides about 20% of our oxygen. I realize, some of these fires are man-made, but once they start, they are much harder to put out now, than they have been in the past, because everything is so hot and dry.

California is ON FIRE right now. As I write this, there are hundreds of fires raging out of control all over the state, with very little containment. This is the fourth year in a row, that these kinds of deadly fires have happened in California, and it's only going to get worse if we don't make more of an effort do DO something about it!

Here's a photo of the lightning that was striking the foothills in Livermore, CA. If that's not a warning sign from Mother Nature that we need to get it together, I don't know what is.

And for anyone who doesn't think this photo could be real... I checked. It does seem to be legitimate, which is pretty frightening. It was posted by the Livermore Fire Department. I almost wish it was Photoshopped!

I'm posting videos of just SOME of the fires we've seen in the last few years. They weren't all caused by lightning, but no matter how they are started, fires are much harder to control now, because our environment is so much drier and hotter.

Putting our energy where it NEEDS TO GO

If there really is a natural, effective solution out there, then I imagine Mother Nature would be shaking her head and looking at us humans like, man, y'all need to get your priorities straight. I already gave you the tools you need. Did humans really turn out to be so greedy that they would actually try to cover up information about the things I created, that work, in an effort to make 3 trillion dollars in profit from this coronavirus?  That $3 trillion dollars could go a LONG WAY towards protecting the environment!

It's not hard to make a difference!

For anyone who doesn't know what you can do, I want to tell you there are ways we can make a big impact. I read that it's estimated that we can offset our carbon emissions by planting 6 trees per month. I realize it's not practical for everyone to do this, but since there are many organizations that will plant trees for $1 each, that means that, for less than $100, every person in the U.S. could have enough trees planted, to offset their own carbon emissions.

I realize that's not the only step we need to take, but if every person did that, it could go a LONG way in keeping global temperatures from spinning out of control.  China has been having success with tree-planting programs, and while it may not be a perfect solution, it definitely seems to be better than doing nothing.

Why plastic trash is stealing our Oxygen
The amount of plastic trash that's in the ocean is causing ocean temperatures to rise, which is not only diminishing our oxygen, but it's also causing these crazy weather changes.

On August 16th, we had massive amounts of THUNDER and LIGHTNING in the middle of silicon valley, after the hottest day I've seen this year, 103 degrees. I've been in California almost 30 years, and have never seen anything remotely close to this. Just look at this picture of lightning that was taken in Livermore, I believe by one of the firefighters.  I mean, if this doesn't make it obvious that Mother nature is trying to tell us to wake the hell up, and we need to get it together FAST.... I don't know what will.

You know how, when there was that tsunami in Thailand, and there were all these tourists on the beach, just standing on the beach, looking at the waves, just before that wave WIPED THEM OUT? Well, I feel like, that's kind of what a lot of us are doing right now. It's like, ooh, look at the lightning in the sky, in the middle of summer after the hottest day of the year. That's really neat, what is that?

Um, hello, that's like, just one of MANY warnings that mother nature has been TRYING to give us, for decades, that we need to stop polluting the earth. And if you don't believe that's a real thing, please click on the link below, and

I may get in trouble for saying this but I'm going to say it anyway. IF and I am saying IF, there IS something SAFE, EASY, AND INEXPENSIVE, that could actually make this coronavirus not a problem... then in my opinion, that 3 trillion dollars that's currently being directed at finding a cure, would be WAY better spent, going towards fixing our environment so that our kids have some OXYGEN left to breathe.

I just learned the "breathing into a paper bag" trick for hyperventilation REALLY WORKS!

When I was a kid (I think maybe about 10 years old), my Mom took me to see a doctor, because I was having a hard time breathing. It wasn't asthma, but my chest felt tight, and it was really hard to get a deep breath. It was like I just couldn't get my lungs to expand as much as I wanted them to.

Looking back at it, I think this was around the time when I was eating ice cream and putting folgers instant coffee crystals all over them. I had no idea those could be adding to the problem, and the doctor never asked me if I was eating anything out of the ordinary. So I never thought about the connection, until this year.

I didn't realize that what I was doing was hyperventilating. I'm pretty sure my doctor never said this to me, and he definitely didn't tell me to try breathing into a paper bag.

Eventually went back to normal (probably when we ran out of the Folger's crystals), and I didn't have a problem again until I was 20, and working as a waitress, about 50 hours per week, in a busy pizza joint. A lot of restaurants have bartenders, hostesses, and people to bus the tables, but we didn't have any. We had to do everything ourselves.  We would get slammed on Fridays and Saturdays, and I'd find myself feeling really anxious almost as soon as I'd wake up on a Friday morning. I was starting to get that same tight chested feeling I used to get when I was a kid.  It was hard to take a deep breath, and there were times I'd find myself practically gasping for air.

I remembered seeing commercials for Primatene - they'd show how your lungs can expand, when you take it. So, I bought a box, and loved it. It wasn't a "cure" for my breathing problems, but it did seem to help somewhat. The biggest reason I liked it was because it was like an "upper" - and I could go out dancing all night!

One of my co-workers told me I should try George's aloe vera juice, because, as she said, it works wonders for a lot of things. So I bought it, and it really did seem to help (not a cure or quick fix, but it did seem to help over time). Eventually, I stopped working such a crazy schedule and drinking so much caffeine (I was drinking lots of iced tea at the time) and my breathing went back to normal.

Fast forward 15 years, to my mid-30s. I was going through a pretty bad breakup, and I was noticing that I was having a hard time breathing, again (and this was one of those times I don't remember being on caffeine, though I had smoked on and off for years, and had just quit). I knew this must be primarily anxiety related. At one point, my chest was so tight, I had to pull off the 280 freeway onto an exit to just sit in my car and try to relax, because I was worried I might pass out while I was driving.

I actually had Kaiser insurance that year, and that was the one time I can remember going to see a doctor (and I was so annoyed that I was paying $235 a month and still had to pay a $35 copay on top of that). The doctor was very nice, but she didn't tell me about the paper bag trick. Instead, she gave me an inhaler and a prescription for Prozac! I was shocked to see how quick she was to suggest it and write me a prescription (not that I minded, because I had always wanted to see what it was like).

Well, this year I was having a lot of anxiety AND I was drinking too much caffeine (but doing it anyway, since I needed to work fast).

I always feel like, there's GOT to be something easy and natural that's going to fix just about any health problem. So, for the last few days I've been trying lots of random things (really, just throwing random things at the wall to see if anything stuck). Drinking lots of fresh Kangen water, taking extra probiotics, ashwagahdha, ginger, oregano oil, and lots of vitamins. Those things may have been making me healthy in the process, but they were NOT doing anything to get rid of the hyperventilating. It was getting so bad, I'd have to go to bed early, to just try to relax, worrying I might pass out.

Then one day, the weirdest thing happened.

I saw a scene from a film clip, where people were dancing in a club, and... you know how, when you're watching something on a screen, you can visualize yourself in the same place - to the point where it can actually affect your own body? When I see people dancing in a club in a movie, it reminds me of the days when I used to go to clubs. And suddenly I could picture being in a hot, sweaty room, with less oxygen. And as I was watching the scene, and I was recalling that feeling of breathing that hot, stale air... it suddenly got easier for me to breathe.

I thought, that is so weird. Why would I get that feeling? All this time, I've been trying to get MORE oxygen into my lungs. Why would my chest suddenly relax, when I felt like I was back in a hot, stuffy room?

I suddenly remembered seeing people on TV and in movies, breathing into a paper bag, when they're having a panic attack. And the lightbulb went off. I thought, Oh my God... is that what I need to do?? I didn't think I was having a panic attack, because I knew caffeine had played a large role in my chest being tight. But I was under a lot of stress. So I thought I'd give it a shot.

I didn't have a paper bag handy, but found a sheet of plastic that I could bunch up in a way so that I could breathe in my own CO2, and sure enough.... it totally worked. My breathing slowed way down, and I felt so much better!!! It was like I could finally breathe again. I found a paper bag I could use (something about breathing into a plastic bag wigs me out).  I'm going to keep it by my desk and use it any time I feel my chest getting tight again.

I googled: why does breathing into a paper bag help, and got this:
Breathing into a paper bag when you're hyperventilating serves to recycle that carbon dioxide that you are blowing out, hence allowing you to breathe slower, and deeply, normalizing the carbon dioxide levels in the bloodstream, and allowing for oxygen to get to the bloodstream via deep, slow breathing.

I thought, holy smokes, that's what hyperventilation is? I never even realized that. I don't remember ever being told that I was hyperventilating, and I was definitely never told about the "paper bag" trick. I could not believe how simple, easy and cheap this solution was.

This is just one of the many times in my life when I feel like I went to doctors to try to find the solution for a problem, but they never told me about the thing that worked THE BEST.  Now, it's true that the doctor I saw when I was 35 did give me some options. I actually liked prozac, and the inhaler kind of helped. But those weren't the best options.

The thing that helped the MOST, was breathing my own carbon dioxide, out of a paper bag.

The Key To Longevity - Tips from Bernando Lapallo, Who Lived to be 114

On Christmas Day, 2014, my husband scolded me for posting the video below, on Facebook. While other people were posting pictures of their Christmas tree and their loved ones and newly opened gifts, his wife was posting a video about the importance of keeping your colon clean. He said "You're going to lose your Facebook friends!"  Sorry, but I just can't help myself.  I thought this was one of the best videos I've ever seen (and in my opinion, the perfect Christmas gift)! Lol!

It is SO IMPORTANT to keep your colon clean. When you don't keep your colon clean, or you don't eliminate waste from your body regularly, you can develop diverticulitis, and if you take one look at THIS POST, you'll see why this is something you absolutely, positively DO NOT ever want to develop!!!

Your body is like a plumbing system, and after researching different health conditions I developed a theory that just about every health problem known to mankind can be traced to a plumbing problem in the body. Your body is like an incredible, intricate, self-operated plumbing system that was working even before you were born, and is supposed to keep working your whole life.

Your liver is the filter in your body that's supposed to block out toxins and eliminate them. But if your liver is impaired, your health will suffer.  MANY medications cause scar tissue in the liver, including Proton Pump Inhibitors (Prilosec, Nexium, Prevacid, Omeprazole).  A scarred, clogged, and congested liver will turn into a major plumbing problem. Diabetes causes a major plumbing problem... if circulation is impaired anywhere in the body, your health will be impaired and you can start to lose your limbs! If you have cancer, you have a major plumbing problem. Blood cannot properly travel through a part of the body that has a tumor!

Your colon is just another part of your plumbing system. It's your waste removal system, and if it's impaired, or your body is unable to properly eliminate waste... you're going to have major problems.

Bernando Lapallo talks about how important it is to keep your colon clean. Look at how healthy this man looks!  He was over 100 when this was filmed.

Hope you enjoyed the videos!

Why it's important to Keep Your Colon Clean!! And avoid getting Diverticulitis like the plague!

I'm doing this post today because I just learned what diverticulitis is. I know two people who have it, and have tried to get them on board with drinking electrolyzed reduced water because Dr. Hiromi Shinya (considered by many to be the world's best doc to see if you need a colonoscopy) recommends it to all his patients and he has seen incredible results. Dr. Shinya invented the polypectomy (the procedure that removes polyps from the colon). One friend did try the water for a while and loved it, but my husband stopped delivering it and I need to reach out to him again.

The other woman is very into allopathic medicine and is the type to not do anything that is outside of doctor's orders, so I doubt I will ever get her on board. I've sent her a ton of information on it, including videos showing what great results people have, using electrolyzed reduced water for diverticulitis, but so far... no luck.

Whatever the case is, I want to share with you what diverticulitis is, and why YOU DO NOT WANT TO EVER HAVE IT.  In the past, I wouldn't have thought constipation was a big deal, but IT IS. Constipation can lead to diverticulitis, and if you take a quick glance at what I've highlighted below, you'll see why you need to AVOID THIS DISEASE AT ALL COSTS!

This information is from THIS PAGE:

The Key to Longevity: Cleansing the Colon
by Roopa Chari, M.D.
In America we currently have an epidemic of colon cancer and diseases of the colon due to several reasons some of which include a poor diet, lack of exercise, dehydration, and emotional stress leading to constipation.
Modern life-style has taken its toll on our digestive and eliminative organs. Commercial foods mostly have an acid pH and acidic foods are addictive which is why most children raised on junk foods do not eat fruits and vegetables, which are fresh, raw and natural. Commercial foods also have a very slow transit time in the colon.
The incidence of colon degeneration such as diverticulosis which are herniated bowel pockets caused by constipation has significantly increased. These bowel pockets, caused by increased pressure in the bowel are filled with stool and can become infected if the rotting feces erode the surrounding mucosa in the colon. Colon polyps have also increased in incidence, as up to 50% of Americans have polyps in their colon. These polyps which protrude into the inside of the colon can eventually transform into cancer.

And from THIS PAGE:

Diverticulitis – For unknown reasons, a diverticulum, usually in the left colon, can become inflamed (diverticulitis) and sometimes burst leaking bacteria-rich feces into the abdominal cavity (peritoneum). The result is usually confined to the surface of the adjacent colon producing an acute, sometimes devastating illness characterized by severe abdominal pain in the left lower part of the abdomen, fever and prostration. The treatment usually consists of fluids, bed rest, and antibiotics. Some cases require hospital admission.

If you happen to have diverticulitis, let me know and I can send you some video testimonials showing how people with diverticulitis have greatly benefitted from electrolyzed reduced water.

Why You ABSOLUTELY SHOULD Protect Yourself from Cell Phone Radiation!!!

OK so I am definitely not telling anyone NOT to use their cell phones! I'm not planning to give up mine, anytime soon!

But I wanted to make this post to spread some awareness about the fact that cell phones really are dangerous to hold right next to your body... especially your head.  You have to see some of these videos and photos!

In case you haven't already seen it... you've got to see the story of the woman who came down with breast cancer, and the doctors actually "lined up the dots" of her cancer, with the cell phone she regularly tucked into her bra. This woman had NO risk factors for breast cancer. She is young, Asian, athletic, and didn't have any family history of cancer. You be the judge.

You can buy several different types of radiation protectors on Amazon, and I have posted different brands below. But I have to be honest, the only one I've tried, where I saw a noticeable difference, was with the Pong Case, which you have to get from the company's website.  It's a little confusing to shop for a radiation-protection case... it seems that there are a few different Pong cases being sold on Amazon, but they don't have great reviews. I don't get it. This really was the only one I've used, where, I felt like it worked, and my hand didn't feel "numb" after holding the phone for a long period of time.

The downside of the pong case was, after using it for a few years, the rubber started to "crumble" to the point where I had to get a different case. That's when I tried another brand of case that seemed to have good reviews on Amazon, but honestly, I could still feel the radiation and was left with a numb hand, after using it. So... I guess you'll have to be the judge, with what works best for you, but I've honestly never found a better brand, than Pong. I just wish they had more cases available on Amazon.

You can see lots more videos on THIS PAGE.

Even though it says, in most cell phone manuals, that you're supposed to hold them about an inch away from your body (at least), let's be real... who really reads the fine print in those manuals? When you see everyone around you using a cell phone (and holding it up to their heads), from your friends to your boss to the person in the car next to you... and nobody you know has come down with cancer or a brain tumor ... it's way too easy to think that cell phones are somehow safe.

Kind of like how nobody used to think anything of homes filled with asbestos and lead paint, kids not wearing seat belts or helmets, and people smoking in restaurants (including pregnant women).

It's just a matter of time before we have enough cautionary tales piled up, to make our culture finally say, "Hm... maybe this really isn't safe!"  Just because you don't necessarily know of anyone who's died of a brain tumor, doesn't mean it's not happening. Scroll down and you'll see stories of people who really did die from brain tumors, linked to cell phone use. You can also view a video that shows a senate discussion of how cell phones really aren't safe to hold next to your head.

I highly recommend getting one of these patented cell phone radiation protectors!!!  I bought a radiation protector years ago (and can absolutely feel the difference) but the plastic/rubber shield is wearing down so I'm due for a new one. I'd never seen this brand till today and it sounds even better than what I already have.

EMF Protection Cell Phone Anti Radiation Protector Shield - Smartphone, WiFi, Best EMR Neutralizer Ondeom Patch - iPhone and all Mobile Phones models, iPad iPod, Macbook, Computer, Laptop, Tablet...

Please have a look at these videos, and you will see why I am so big on protecting yourself from radiation!

A good friend of mine just told me her ex husband got a tumor in his testes... on the same side where  he used to carry his cell phone in his pocket, all the time. And he died.

Please, people... if you use a cell phone... watch the videos on this page, and if you know anyone who holds it next to their head... please share this with them or at least tell them it's not safe. And as you can see from the photo above... it's especially unsafe for kids!

To quote part of an article from Dr. Mercola's site:

Sadly, children and teens are at greatest risk—both for parotid gland tumors and brain tumors—as their thinner skull bones allow for greater penetration of cell phone radiation. The radiation can enter all the way into their midbrain, where tumors are more deadly. In addition, children's cells reproduce more quickly, so they're more susceptible to aggressive cell growth. Children also face a far greater lifetime exposure. According to Professor Lennart Hardell of Sweden, those who begin using cell phones heavily as teenagers have 4 to 5 times more brain cancer as young adults!

Just because a cell phone is not in active use (meaning, connected to a call), does not mean it's not "ON," and transmitting radio frequencies. The cell phone is constantly giving out radio frequencies while it's off, in order to be alerted that a call is coming in. I mean think about it... the woman who got breast cancer in the story above, figured it was "off" when it was tucked into her bra. She wasn't exactly talking to people on the phone, while it was in that position.

This is a senate discussion about how cell phones are considered dangerous (if you don't use a headset or put it on speakerphone)...

This video shows Dr. Devra Davis, talking about why cell phones are dangerous...

This is another one by Dr. Davis...

The video below shows testimonials of real people who developed tumors due to cell phone use, and family members who have lost their loved ones because of cell phones. One guy talks about how he considers himself to be a very informed person, who reads 3-4 newspapers a day, and yet he still didn't get the message that cell phones are dangerous. He's clearly not alone... most of us are NOT getting this message, either. At least, we aren't getting it plugged into our heads to the degree that it needs to be. It's kind of like with seat belts. As long as they've been there in the cars, most people probably figured they should use them, but it wasn't that big a deal if you didn't.  It was only when it became a law, that people really started to realize... ok, this is serious.

More brain tumor victims...

I am doing a copy and paste of a VERY good article by Dr. Mercola (this is where I originally saw the video of the woman who developed breast cancer that formed the pattern of her cell phone she regularly tucked into her bra... so it's featured once more below).  Here is a link for the original article if you'd like to see it on Dr Mercola's page, or subscribe to his site; he's awesome.  http://articles.mercola.com/sites/articles/archive/2012/06/16/emf-safety-tips.aspx

By Dr. Mercola
If you think the jury's still out on whether cell phones can be dangerous to your health, then you might want to take the time to listen to this video from the Environmental Health Trust (www.ehtrust.org). Dr. Devra Davis, author of "Disconnect--The Truth About Cellphone Radiation," has been researching the safety hazards of radiation emanating from your cell phone.
Like many people, Dr. Davis just didn't believe the possibility of cell phones being dangerous―until she studied it. And now, with the toxicological and epidemiological evidence to back up her claims, she's trying to get the word out that cell phone radiation is not only dangerous, but can be downright lethal.
In her lecture, Dr. Davis explains how the biological impact of your cell phone is notrelated to its power, which is quite weak, but rather to the erratic nature of its signal and its ability to disrupt resonance and interfere with DNA repair. This is now believed to be the most plausible theory for understanding the wide array of health impacts discovered, which includes cancer...

Can Your Cell Phone Cause Cancer?

One interesting case that can serve as an illustrative warning of the cancer-causing potential of cell phones is that of a young woman with no other predisposing risk factors for cancer who came down with multi-focal breast cancer. The case was revealed in the May issue of the Environmental Health Trust's newsletteri.  As it turns out, the young lady had the curious habit of tucking her cell phone into her bra...
Two cancer specialists, Robert Nagourney and John West, concluded there was only one other possibility that might have directly contributed to her breast cancer. "We connected the dots," the patient said. And the dots―quite literally the pattern of the cancer, and distribution of the cancerous cells―lined up perfectly with the shape of her cell phone.
While her doctor can't prove the cell phone caused her cancer, it should serve as a potent warning not only to other women who might tuck their phones in their bras, but also to those of you who keep your phones in your pants pocket or shirt pocket as well. As a general rule, you'll want to avoid carrying your phone anywhere on your body. Keep in mind that the most dangerous place to be, in terms of radiation exposure, is within about six inches of the emitting antenna. You do not want any part of your body within that proximity.

Why Carrying Your Cell Phone on Your Body is a Bad Idea...

Regardless of the area exposed to the continuous radiation emitted by your cell phone, there's the potential for harm, although certain areas are clearly more vulnerable than others.
For example, research published in 2009 showed evidence that wearing a cell phone on your hip may weaken an area of your pelvisii. Using an X-ray technique used in the diagnosis and monitoring of patients with osteoporosis, researchers measured pelvic bone density in 150 men who regularly carried their cell phones attached to their belts. The men carried their phones for an average of 15 hours each day, and had used cell phones for an average of six years. The researchers found that bone mineral density was lowered on the side of the pelvis where the mobile phones were carried, raising the possibility that bone density could be adversely affected by the electromagnetic fields emitted by cell phones.
It's important to realize that as long as your cell phone is on, it emits radiation intermittently, even when you are not actually making a call. So wearing a cell phone on your hip for 15 hours a day is giving that area of your body nearly continuous radiation exposure.
Previous studies have found that cell phone radiation can affect men's sperm count, and the quality and motility of their sperm, and this may be a far greater issue than its effect on bone density. One such study, published in PLoS Oneiii found that:
"RF-EMR in both the power density and frequency range of mobile phones enhances mitochondrial reactive oxygen species generation by human spermatozoa, decreasing the motility and vitality of these cells while stimulating DNA base adduct formation and, ultimately DNA fragmentation. These findings have clear implications for the safety of extensive mobile phone use by males of reproductive age, potentially affecting both their fertility and the health and wellbeing of their offspring."
Men in particular may want to reconsider carrying their cell phones on their belts or in their pocket, in close proximity of their reproductive organs. In addition, you have a number of other sensitive organs in that general area, including liver, kidneys, colon and bladder—all of which are susceptible to radiation.

Recent Evidence Identifies Strong Cell Phone Cancer Link

Last year, an Israeli research group reported a sharp increase in the incidence of parotid gland tumors over the last 30 years, with the steepest increase happening after 2001. Your parotid gland is a type of salivary gland, located closest to your cheek—the same area where most people typically hold their cell phones. The researchers found a four-fold increase in parotid gland cancers from 1970 to 2006, while rates of other salivary gland cancers remained stableiv.
That same year, Dr. Siegal Sadetzki, the principal investigator of a 2008 study, testified at a U.S. Senate Hearing that cell phones were identified as a contributor to salivary gland tumors. The report states that your risk of getting a parotid tumor on the same side of your head that you use for listening to the mobile phone increases by:
  • 34 percent if you are a regular cell phone user and have used a mobile phone for 5 years.
  • 58 percent if you had more than about 5,500 calls in your lifetime.
  • 49 percent if you have spoken on the phone for more than 266.3 hours during your lifetime.

World Health Organizaion Classifies Cell Phone Radiation as Class B Carcinogen

Cell phone subscriptions are now estimated at 5.9 billion globallyv—that's 87 percent of the world population! I think it's safe to say, we've already passed the point of no return when it comes to this technology. But as cell phone use continues to grow unabated, a growing body of researchers is speaking out against the technology, warning that it may have serious biological side effects that must be acknowledged and remedied.
Fortunately, their warnings are slowly but surely beginning to be heard.
On May 31, 2011, the World Health Organization (WHO)/International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) issued a report admitting cell phones might indeed cause cancer, classifying radiofrequency electromagnetic fields as "possibly carcinogenic to humans" (Class 2B)vi. The classification came in part in response to research showing wireless telephones increase the risk for brain cancer.
According to the press releasevii:
"Dr Jonathan Samet (University of Southern California, USA), overall Chairman of the Working Group, indicated that "the evidence, while still accumulating, is strong enough to support a conclusion and the 2B classification. The conclusion means that there could be some risk, and therefore we need to keep a close watch for a link between cell phones and cancer risk."
"Given the potential consequences for public health of this classification and findings," said IARC Director Christopher Wild, "it is important that additional research be conducted into the longterm, heavy use of mobile phones. Pending the availability of such information, it is important to take pragmatic measures to reduce exposure such as handsfree devices or texting."

Children are at Greatest Risk—Including While in Utero

Sadly, children and teens are at greatest risk—both for parotid gland tumors and brain tumors—as their thinner skull bones allow for greater penetration of cell phone radiation. The radiation can enter all the way into their midbrain, where tumors are more deadly. In addition, children's cells reproduce more quickly, so they're more susceptible to aggressive cell growth. Children also face a far greater lifetime exposure. According to Professor Lennart Hardell of Sweden, those who begin using cell phones heavily as teenagers have 4 to 5 times more brain cancer as young adults!
The following image, used with permission from the book Public Health SOS: The Shadow Side of the Wireless Revolution, clearly shows the differences in depth of penetration between adults and young children.
Pregnant women would also be wise to avoid cell phones as much as possible. In 2008, researchers analyzed data from nearly 13,000 children and found that exposure to cell phones while in the womb, and also during childhood, were linked to behavioral difficulties.viiiUsing handsets just two or three times a day during pregnancy was enough to raise the risk of their babies developing hyperactivity and difficulties with conduct, emotions, and relationships by the time they reached school age—and the risk became even greater if the children also used the phones themselves before the age of seven.
Overall, the study revealed that mothers who used mobile phones were 54 percent more likely to have children with behavioral problems. Later on, when the children began using cell phones themselves, they were:
  • 80 percent more likely to suffer from behavioral difficulties
  • 25 percent more at risk from emotional problems
  • 34 percent more likely to suffer from difficulties relating to their peers
  • 35 percent more likely to be hyperactive
  • 49 percent more prone to problems with conduct

Experts Adamantly Claim Harmful Effects are Now Provable

Experts in the area of the biological effects of electromagnetic frequencies (EMF) and wireless technologies believe there's virtually no doubt that cell phones and related gadgets are capable of causing not only cancer but contributing to a wide variety of other conditions, from depression and diabetes to heart irregularities and impaired fertility. Researchers have now identified numerous mechanisms of harm, which explain how electromagnetic fields impact your cells and damages your DNA.
One such expert is Dr. Martin Blank, PhD, one of the most experienced researchers of the cellular and molecular effects of electromagnetic fields in the U.S. He gave an informative speech at the November 18, 2010 Commonwealth Club of California program, "The Health Effects of Electromagnetic Fields," co-sponsored by ElectromagneticHealth.org. In it, he explained why your DNA, with its 'coil of coils' structure, is especially vulnerable to electromagnetic fields of all kinds.
As described in the International Journal of Radiation Biology, April 2011ix, DNA possesses the two structural characteristics of fractal antennas: electronic conduction, and self-symmetry.
These properties contribute to greater reactivity of DNA to electromagnetic fields than other tissues, making the long-term consequences of repeated microwave exposures to our genetic material of great concern. Dr. Blank is adamant when he says that there IS evidence of harm, and that the harm can be significant. He also points out that the science showing harmful effects has been peer-reviewed, published, and that the results have been replicated, evaluated and "judged by scientists capable of judging it." I wrote an in-depth article about these findings back in January of last year. If you missed it, go ahead and review it now.
An analysis of the range of known mechanisms of action, including DNA effects, was published in November 2010 in "Non-Thermal Effects and Mechanisms of Interaction Between Electromagnetic Fields and Living Matterx." Furthermore, the mobile industry's ownresearch in the 13-country Interphone studyxi showed a 40 percent increased risk of brain cancer from 1,640 or more hours of cell phone use, and independent Swedish research published in 2007 showed a 540 percent increased risk of brain cancer from greater than 2,000 hours of cell phone usexii.

My Top Tips for Cell Phone Safety

It's worth remembering that the telecommunication industry is much larger than the medical industrial complex, and they have far more influence than the drug companies. They're also mirroring many of the same tactics as the tobacco industry to peddle their wares. This includes attempting to discredit researchers who publish unfavorable cell phone studies.
As Dr. Davis shows in her lecture above, the results of any study can be accurately predicted by looking at its sponsorship. According to a review by Dr. Lai in 2008, the probability that a study will find "no effect" is two to three times higher in industry-funded studies, while independently-funded studies into the health effects of mobile technology are TWICE as likely to find a positive result.
So please, be aware that there is already robust scientific evidence that cell phones and other wireless devices pose significant health risks to all of us—especially to children and pregnant women. So while such findings are not being widely publicized as of yet, it makes sense to take action now to protect yourself and your children. You can help to minimize your exposure to electromagnetic radiation from cell phones and other wireless devices by heeding the following advice:
  • Children Should Always Avoid Using Cell Phones: Barring a life-threatening emergency, children should not use a cell phone, or a wireless device of any type.
  • Reduce Your Cell Phone Use: Turn your cell phone off more often. Reserve it for emergencies or important matters. As long as your cell phone is on, it emits radiation intermittently, even when you are not actually making a call. If you're pregnant, avoiding or reducing your cell phone use may be especially important.
  • Use a Land Line at Home and at Work: Although more and more people are switching to using cell phones as their exclusive phone contact, it is a dangerous trend and you can choose to opt out of the madness. SKYPE offers a portable number via your computer that can plug into any Ethernet port while traveling.
  • Reduce or Eliminate Your Use of Other Wireless Devices: You would be wise to cut down your use of these devices. Just as with cell phones, it is important to ask yourself whether or not you really need to use them as often as you do. And most importantly, do not even consider having any electronic or wireless devices in the bedroom that will interfere with the quality of your sleep.
If you must use a portable home phone, use the older kind that operates at 900 MHz. They are not safer during calls, but at least many of them do not broadcast constantly even when no call is being made. Note the only way to truly be sure if there is an exposure from your cordless phone is to measure with an electrosmog meter, and it must be one that goes up to the frequency of your portable phone (so old meters won't help much). As many portable phones are 5.8 Gigahertz, we recommend you look for RF meters that go up to 8 Gigahertz, the highest range now available in a meter suitable for consumers.
Alternatively you can be very careful with the base station placement as that causes the bulk of the problem since it transmits signals 24/7, even when you aren't talking. So if you can keep the base station at least three rooms away from where you spend most of your time, and especially your bedroom, they may not be as damaging to your health. Another option is to just simply turn the portable phone off, only using it when you specifically need the convenience of moving about while on a call.
Ideally it would be helpful to turn off your base station every night before you go to bed.
You can find RF meters as well as remediation supplies at www.emfsafetystore.com. But you can pretty much be sure your portable phone is a problem if the technology is DECT, or digitally enhanced cordless technology.
  • Use Your Cell Phone Only Where Reception is Good: The weaker the reception, the more power your phone must use to transmit, and the more power it uses, the more radiation it emits, and the deeper the dangerous radio waves penetrate into your body. Ideally, you should only use your phone with full bars and good reception.
  • Avoid Carrying Your Phone on Your Body as that merely maximizes any potential exposure. Ideally put it in your purse or carrying bag. Placing a cell phone in a shirt pocket over the heart is asking for trouble, as is placing it in a man's pocket if he seeks to preserve his fertility.
  • Don't Assume One Cell Phone is Safer than Another: There's no such thing as a "safe" cell phone.  This is particularly true for industry promoted SAR ratings, which are virtually useless in measuring the true potential biological danger as most all of the damage is not done by heat transfer, which SAR measures.
  • Keep Your Cell Phone Away From Your Body When it is On: The most dangerous place to be, in terms of radiation exposure, is within about six inches of the emitting antenna. You do not want any part of your body within that area.
  • Respect Others Who are More Sensitive: Some people who have become sensitive can feel the effects of others' cell phones in the same room, even when it is on but not being used. If you are in a meeting, on public transportation, in a courtroom or other public places, such as a doctor's office, keep your cell phone turned off out of consideration for the 'second hand radiation' effects. Children are also more vulnerable, so please avoid using your cell phone near children.
If you are using the Pong case, which redirects the cell phone radiation away from the head and successfully lowers the SAR effect, realize that in redirecting the radiation away from your head this may be intensifying the radiation in another direction, perhaps toward the person next to you, or, if in your pocket, increasing radiation intensity toward your body. Caution is always advised in dealing with any radiation-emitting device. We recommend cell phones be kept 'Off' except for emergencies.
  • Use Safer Headset Technology: Wired headsets will certainly allow you to keep the cell phone farther away from your body. However, if a wired headset is not well-shielded -- and most of them are not -- the wire itself acts as an antenna attracting ambient radio waves and transmitting radiation directly to your brain.
Make sure that the wire used to transmit the signal to your ear is shielded.
The best kind of headset to use is a combination shielded wire and air-tube headset. These operate like a stethoscope, transmitting the information to your head as an actual sound wave; although there are wires that still must be shielded, there is no wire that goes all the way up to your head.

Please share this with anyone you know, who uses a cell phone! Especially if they have kids who use cell phones too!

And just to be clear, I'm not against the idea of using a cell phone. I totally rely on mine, as many people do.  I'm just saying... if you're going to use one... please be safe about it.

Best regards,

Laura Ellen (Ualani)
